project  concept: expansion + compression

Bringing theatre to the people and people to the theatre, the Chrysalis Centre is a 44,000 sq.ft. community hub in Vancouver's Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood, providing permanent offices for five mid-size theatre companies and offering rentable hot desks for visiting companies. Providing financial stability and a creative space for the development of new works, the building includes office space, rehearsal halls for rent, projection galleries, lounges and theatre spaces allowing for the showcasing of experimental video and performance art, music, comedy, and theatrical live performance. A restaurant/bar intended to generate income is located on the main floor and is open to the general public. (Click on individual images for more details.)
